We're looking for some folks to join us for our 2022 season!
About the Farm
Rainwater Farms is a Certified Naturally Grown market farm on 1.5 acres in Honeoye Falls. We primarily farm by hand and using a two wheel BCS tractor (and a larger 4 wheel tractor for moving compost). Most of our work is outdoors but we also use greenhouses and tunnels for sensitive crops and season extension.
Farm Crew
Main Growing Season: March-November 2022 Full Time
Winter Season: January-March 2023 Part Time
Benefits
Starting at $15/hr
- Farm Share weekly
- One week off, of your choice, during the peak growing season for rest and relaxation
- Friday farm lunches
- Training on small scale reduced tillage farming methods, including how to safely operate a tractor and BCS two wheel tractor
- Option for employee to run their own project - animal or vegetable related- on our land. Employee would present their idea to the owners and if greenlit, the project would be incorporated into the season. (Examples- keeping pigs or bees, growing a new type of vegetable, trying to manage an entire field 100% no till, etc)
- Option to work part time hours in our workshop (duties would be sanding, finishing, etc with the potential to use other equipment pending training)
Ideal candidates have some experience with physical work outside, enjoy learning to tackle new tasks in creative ways, are comfortable working both as part of a team and individually, and are interested in growing and providing food to the local community.
Duties will vary from day to day, and from season to season. You can expect to do a lot of planting, weeding, and harvesting as well as many other miscellaneous tasks around the farm. Spring is mostly preparing for the harvest season, summer is managing weeds and keeping up successions of vegetables for farm shares and markets, and fall is putting the farm to bed for the winter and the next season. In the winter 2023 we'll have part time hours available to assist with winter growing, as well as to help out in the workshop if desired.
If you'd be interested in joining our team for 2022 please reach out to emma@rainwaterfarmsny.com with your resume, a short letter of interest answering why you'd like to work with us, and 2 references. Farming experience is not required, if you think you'd be a good fit for this opportunity please reach out.
